Learning Sessions Information
The UM Battery Lab and Battery Safety

This presentation will introduce the University of Michigan Battery Lab and its capabilities for battery prototyping, testing, and analysis. Battery safety and how the Battery Lab is enabling researchers to build better, safer cells will be discussed.
Metal Additive Manufacturing for Medical Implants

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a new industrial revolution. In a single decade, AM has grown to be used to produce millions of medical implants each year. This process is ideal for the creation of joint replacement and spine devices. The presentation will explain why AM was quickly adopted by the medical industry and how it will continue to grow in the future.
Future Needs for Aeronautic Manufacturing Technologies

Brief background on the Pratt and Whitney Canada portfolio as it includes a significant amount of product, creating an important impact on technology needs. Understand the winning condition for future technologies and alignment with industry 4.0. This presentation will look at the integration needs for future manufacturing technology.
Circuit Assembly Reliability vs. Cost Savings – A Case History

Historically, the production of circuit assemblies involved five primary steps: Board Fabrication, Component Placement, Soldering / Reflow, Post-Reflow Cleaning, Test and Inspection. 1989 witnessed the beginning of the end of one of these primary assembly steps. This presentation will review the reasons why a critical process step was largely eliminated and the resulting reliability challenges.
